Mason Greenwood’s career at Manchester United came to an abrupt end under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the academy graduate sidelined from the first-team squad due to off-pitch circumstances.
Greenwood never returned to action for United following his suspension and instead left the club in 2024.
He joined La Liga side Getafe on loan in a bid to revive his career away from the spotlight.

The 23-year-old returned to United before then making a permanent switch to Olympique de Marseille, where he has become a key figure in the French side’s push for Champions League football.
Greenwood’s performances this season have drawn praise in France, and OM president Pablo Longoria has now confirmed the financial and contractual details behind the forward’s move from Old Trafford.
Speaking at a press conference as reported by Get French Football News, Longoria revealed that United still own 50% of Greenwood’s economic rights.
Pablo Longoria confirms Manchester United due
“We purchased 50% of the player’s economic rights, representing his entire value,” he said.
“This was the only way to make an offer that was higher than those made by other clubs to Manchester United.”
Longoria also confirmed that Marseille’s qualification for the Champions League now obliges the club to buy an additional 10% of Greenwood, increasing their stake to 60%.
United are therefore expected to receive another payment from OM in line with that agreement.
It is not yet clear whether United will retain 40% of Greenwood’s future value or only a share of any future profit.
However, Longoria’s comments confirm that Manchester United still maintain a significant financial interest in the player.
There has been talk of Greenwood insisting for a return to the Premier League.
He is said to be homesick, missing his family in England.
