Ange Postecoglou faces the biggest match of his Tottenham career when they face Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday.

The Premier League sides meet for the chance to turn dismal campaigns into a successful one with the Europa League trophy.

To the victor go the spoils, the saying goes, but it has never been more true than in this case; the winner on the night will be playing in the Champions League next season.

The loser will have no European football next season, and their place in the dugout will be increasingly untenable.

Postecoglou has to bring Europa League back to Tottenham

The chance to win a first trophy since 2008 and secure a place among Europe’s elite is probably not something Tottenham supporters saw coming this season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Postecoglou and his side have endured so much misery and outside noise surrounding his future has never been higher as a result.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that it would completely change the outlook of the North London club, from within and outside, if they can secure victory.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “Devastating, if they don’t win the final, you have the season that they have had in the Premier League, you would have to say it would have to go down as a calamity.

“It really is a win-or-bust situation, I would say, for Tottenham this time.

“He was right about one thing, Postecoglou, I think he said in the press conference, that it would change the mentality of the club, not only the way other clubs think about them.

“But also the way the club thinks about itself, which is quite a subtle point to make, he might be right there, it may help to instil a different kind of winning mentality.

“Because they are sick of the jibes, being called nearly men, you know all the jokes about the empty trophy cabinet, they can put all of that to bed if they win on the night.

“This is one is for all the marbles, as they say.”

Tottenham cannot afford to lose v Manchester United

The Lilywhites cannot afford to lose the Bilbao showcase, it would damage their plans for the future immensely.

If they win, they will have Champions League money to invest in the highest-calibre players and be able to convince them to join.

Failure to do so would leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium outfit open to more misery as they would not be able to attract the players they need to get themselves out of this mess that they are in right now.

It would be a disaster and would lead to even more protests surrounding the way Levy runs the club.
