“Release clause” | ExWHUEmployee | West Ham target Swiss defender

**West Ham have identified Swiss defender Albian Hajdari as a likely target this summer, it has been reported by ExWHUEmployee.**

As the current and dreadfully poor 2024/25 season draws to a close this weekend, all attention at West Ham will firmly turn to the summer transfer window, with a high expectation of a significant overhaul of the squad to align with the vison of Head Coach Graham Potter.

The Hammers boss is working alongside his Head of Recruitment Kyle Macaulay to identify targets as the search narrows on players that the club will make firm moves for during the transfer window, as pressure also grows on the club to generate funds by selling a number of players.

Reporting on The West Ham Way Podcast this week, our insider Ex has advised that the club have identified a couple of Swiss defenders of interest, although Hajdari is at this stage considered the most likely to be a potential signing.

“We have identified two young Swiss defenders as potential targets this summer,” stated the club insider. “Aurèle Amenda of Frankfurt is a player we highly admire, however the fact he only joined the German side last year from Young Boys presents a hurdle to get a deal done.

“Another we are very keen on is Albian Hajdari, who is a 22 year old defender who plays for Lugano. It’s understood that he has a release clause, so is one that the club could look to pursue with a bid in the upcoming transfer window.”

Ex also shed light on reported interest in Monaco striker Breel Embolo, with rumours suggesting he is a target for Potter this summer.

“We have been linked with a move for 28 year old forward Breel Embolo, who currently plays for Monaco,” added Ex. “However, its understood that is injury record is likely to mean we will not consider pursuing a move to sign him.”
