Predicted Offseason Move Makes Perfect Sense for the San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs entered the 2025 NBA offseason with a perfect chance to bolster thier roster around Victor Wembanyama. With the umber two overall pick and several other trade assets, the Spurs could add an estalished star or draft a promising youngerster.

One move allows them to do both, although it isn't as flashy as trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Spurs, and nearly every other team in the league, were linked to Cameron Johnson this season. Johnson ended up remaining on the Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 18.8 points per game on excellent 39 percent shooting from deep, in line with his career average.

The Nets have four first-round picks in the 2025 Draft, although the lottery was not kind to them and they will pick eighth, likely missing out on a franchise centerpiece.

The Spurs could offer them the second pick for Johnson, although he is not worth that obscene amount of draft capital. The Nets would have to pad their offer a bit.

Spurs receive: Cameron Johnson, eighth overall pick

Nets receive: Keldon Johnson, second overall pick

Cameron is a clear upgrade on both ends of the floor over Keldon, and the Spurs could use the eighth pick to select a talented rookie like Derik Queen, Khaman Maluach, Kon Knueppel, or Asa Newell to round out their young core.

A starting five of De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, Johnson, and Wembanyama, with a high-level rookie, Julian Champagnie, Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan, and the 14th overall pick all coming off the bench, is a tough roster to beat.

While it's not as massive of a move as adding the Greek Freak, it allows for the Spurs to make other moves down the road and not link themselves to a single star on the wrong side of 30, and bolsters their shooting around Wemby.
