Aaron Cresswell’s stay at West Ham may not be over yet after it was announced he will be leaving at the end of the season.

West Ham have just one game remaining in the Premier League before all focus turns to the summer transfer window and the decisions that will need to be made within it.

A whole host of players have already been linked with a move to the London Stadium, while others are already confirmed to be leaving at the end of the season.

Vladimir Coufal and Cresswell are two to have been announced as leaving, but the Irons could make a U-turn on their decision on the latter.

West Ham could offer Cresswell coaching role

At 35 years old, Cresswell’s best days are certainly behind him, though the experience he has accrued throughout his time with the Irons is invaluable.

There may well be options for him to continue his playing career for another season or two, but with West Ham said to be looking at hiring new coaching staff, Cresswell may not be nailed on to leave yet.

Cresswell’s all-time stats for the Hammers.

Cresswell has been a West Ham player for 11 years, having made the move from Ipswich Town in 2014, and very few will know what it means to play for this club quite like he does.

With that in mind, his services could be useful as the Hammers look to bolster the staff behind Graham Potter for the new campaign, and provide that know-how behind the scenes at Chadwell Heath.

Potter must be backed if he remains at West Ham

First and foremost, there are already concerns as to whether Potter will be in charge next season, given the failures he has demonstrated so far, but if he is, he needs to be backed.

West Ham have had a horrible campaign, and that will not improve next season if they don’t recruit well.

These next few months are going to be crucial for the Hammers as they look to return to where they belong in the Premier League.
