Saudi Arabia’s big-money push in football is no longer just about retired stars or fading talents.
In recent windows, clubs from the Saudi Pro League have gone after players still operating at the highest level in Europe.
This summer looks set to continue the trend.
But now, it’s hitting closer to home for Liverpool.
The Reds, already preparing for a new season under Arne Slot, know they can’t afford to lose key attackers just as a rebuild begins.
The Premier League is no playground—Manchester City, Arsenal, and even Aston Villa have made the top four race brutal.
Liverpool can’t afford to slip.
Liverpool have always relied on a strong front line, and the depth there has been key to the club’s success in recent years.
That’s why the latest reports from Sky Germany are so concerning.
On Tuesday morning, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg revealed that Saudi Pro League clubs are planning a triple swoop on Liverpool’s attack.
The reporter said that “Saudi clubs are continuing to push for Darwin Nunez,” and added that a deal this summer is “absolutely possible.”
Darwin Nunez has had a mixed season.
While he still brings energy and chaos up front, his output hasn’t matched the investment.
Just seven goals in over 2,000 minutes have raised questions, and fans saw another frustrating display when he came off the bench in the loss to Brighton on Monday.
Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are also on Saudi wish lists, with Plettenberg stating that “there have also been enquiries from Saudi Arabia for Diogo Jota and Diaz.”
The reporter added that if any of those were to leave Anfield, “a new striker is part of the plan” for Liverpool.
From Liverpool’s side, Diaz is unlikely to be sold.
He’s had a strong season with 17 goals, including four in his last six.
Jota’s injury issues are frustrating, but he’s still considered valuable.
His quick-fire winner against Nottingham Forest in January is a perfect example of the impact he offers off the bench.
For now, all eyes are on Nunez.
A move to Saudi Arabia might suit all sides—but if Liverpool lose more than one forward this summer, it would leave a big hole in Slot’s first squad.
Sky Germany have reported that Darwin Nunez is leaving Liverpool and there have been enquiries for Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota. Keep an eye on Diaz and Jota. One, maybe even both, could leave. https://t.co/L37RwsvTdM
