Andre Onana has endured a rocky season at Manchester United.
Brought in 2023 to replace David de Gea, the Cameroonian keeper was expected to revolutionise United’s build-up play – but instead, his performances have been overshadowed by a series of high-profile mistakes.

Whether it’s been poor distribution under pressure or questionable shot-stopping, Onana has faced intense scrutiny from pundits and fans alike.
Yet despite the noise, Ruben Amorim has stood by his No 1 – and now, Onana is on the verge of making history.
Andre Onana to make history despite struggling season
As per Daily Mail’s report, the 29-year-old is set to become the first goalkeeper ever to feature in European finals for three different clubs, when Manchester United take on Spurs in the Europa League final in Bilbao.
Onana was in goal for Ajax in the 2017 Europa League final – a game they lost to United – and also started for Inter Milan during their Champions League final defeat to Manchester City in 2023.
Now at Old Trafford, he has the chance to go one better and lift silverware at the San Mames.
His closest competitor for the feat is Edwin van der Sar, who played in major European finals for Ajax and United – and even won the Intertoto Cup with Juventus in 1999.
But with that being a summer competition with multiple winners, it doesn’t quite measure up.
United will be counting on Onana to summon the same commanding display he produced in Istanbul against City two years ago.

A night when he kept Pep Guardiola’s side at bay for long stretches.
Speaking ahead of the final, defender Noussair Mazraoui – who played alongside Onana at Ajax – praised his teammate.
“He’s a great goalkeeper. I think he also showed this season a lot of great saves,” Mazraoui said, as per Daily Mail.
“You have to give him the confidence and you have to trust him because he is your No 1 goalkeeper.
“I don’t have the feeling like I’m scared to let somebody shoot.”
For Onana, Wednesday night could mark the ultimate redemption – and a slice of European football history.
