'Perfection': Don Hutchison says £59m Man City star was Kevin De Bruyne-like vs Bournemouth

Manchester City made the perfect start to their huge Premier League contest with Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s men have experienced a very tough season as they have gone trophyless throughout the campaign and have yet to secure Champions League football with two games to go heading into the Bournemouth contest.

The Cherries were expected to provide a tough test for the Manchester club at the Etihad Stadium, which Paul Merson expected when predicting a narrow Man City win.

Man City made an encouraging start to the match against Bournemouth, however, it required some magic to break the deadlock.

The Etihad Stadium was in awe of the goal, and it clearly impressed Don Hutchison, who was commenting on the contest for the Premier League, labelling the forward’s strike as Kevin De Bruyne-like.

“The biggest compliment I can pay to Marmoush is that this is De Bruyne-like,” Hutchison said via PremierLeague.com. “What a hit. That is perfection.”

Guardiola has praised Marmoush for adapting to life at Man City so quickly, and the signing of the Egyptian is one Chris Sutton approves of.

Chris Sutton praises the signing of Omar Marmoush

Having struggled throughout the opening half of the 2024/25 campaign, Man City made the £59m move to bring Marmoush to Manchester from Eintracht Frankfurt, in addition to Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis.

The former Bundesliga star has been the one who has had the biggest impact on City since his arrival, and having watched the 26-year-old score his eighth goal for the Manchester club, pundit Chris Sutton was quick to praise the signing of the forward.

“Man City needed that spark, and Omar Marmoush is one of the signings that has provided that,” Sutton said on Sky Sports via the BBC.

Man City fans have been delighted with the impact Marmoush has made at the Etihad since his arrival, and it will be interesting to see how good he can be throughout the 2025/26 campaign with a full pre-season under his belt, learning Guardiola’s ways.
