**Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has an active £30 million release clause following the Tractor Boys' relegation back to the Championship, and Newcastle United are one of several clubs keen to activate it.**
Liam Delap has been on Newcastle's radar since he was in the academy at Manchester City, and while they didn't take a punt on him last summer, they will get their chance again a year later thanks to a relegation release clause in his Ipswich deal.
Ipswich still remain hopeful that the 22-year-old will remain with them to help them back into the Premier League, but even they must realise the likelihood is that he will move on to a bigger club with the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United chasing his signature.
It had been reported recently that Delap favours a move to Manchester United, although we fail to see the logic in that move, as a former Man City player and given how poor they have been lately.

A new report from [TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/premier-league/3220563/transfer-news-martinez-man-utd-newcastle-man-city-wirtz/) suggests that nothing is close to being done yet and that Delap is holding talks with several clubs this week, including Newcastle United.
Delap has already met with Man United and is expected to meet Newcastle and Chelsea this week before deciding where his future lies.
Newcastle are in need of striker support for Alexander Isak with Callum Wilson being made of Shredded Wheat and Will Osula not quite having his head screwed on right just yet.
Alexander Isak is going to make it very difficult for Newcastle to sign a top striker

However, therein lies the problem for the Magpies.
Chelsea and Manchester United don't really have anyone to compete with Liam Delap. He's already arguably better than their main options up front, whereas Delap would have to wait for his opportunity at Newcastle unless Eddie Howe has designs on playing two strikers. It's the same issue that pretty much rules us out of signing Jonathan David.
However, we can't be fully counted out as Delap may see the opportunity to learn from Isak as a good thing, as well as working under Eddie Howe with his Midas touch.
It'll all come down to the presentation of the club, the project and the pathway for Delap, and if we can get that right, we still have a big chance.
