Anthony Edwards Has Emotional 1-Word Message Ahead of Wolves-Thunder

A scroll through Anthony Edwards' feed on X (formerly Twitter) will show countless shoe promotions, team fundraising events and even photos of his dog.

But a loaded one-word mantra has stuck with Edwards since he was selected No. 1 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020.

"DIFM2."

It's an acronym that has become commonplace for Edwards to post, but is also used consciously.

After falling to the Dallas Mavericks in five games in last year's Western Conference finals, Edwards returns to the brightest stage of his athletic career on Tuesday, May 20, in Game 1 of the conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Just hours before tipoff, Edwards posted the acronym again that fans have theorized is a reminder of his constant source of motivation: "Do It For Mom x2."

Edwards, who lost his mother and grandmother to cancer when he was in eighth grade, has carried their memory with him every step of his career.

When Edwards was drafted in 2020, during the lockdown, he was captured sitting next to portraits of both his maternal role models who supported him in his journey to reach the NBA.

Few months go by without Edwards paying his mother and grandmother respect on his social media.

"I know y'all with me every step I take," Edwards wrote in 2021. "Happy Mother's Day love y'all. #DIFM2."

Edwards' latest message comes just hours before he will follow through on his promise of returning to the Western Conference finals after last year's loss.

The path was rocky with the Timberwolves searching for their identity after the Karl-Anthony Towns trade just weeks before the start of the season. The Wolves struggled out of the gate but have been one of the NBA's most dominant teams through the final months of the regular season.

Edwards has led the Timberwolves with 26.5 points per game in the postseason and is on the verge of riding rarified air in the NBA, leading a team to the NBA Finals at just 23 years old.
