Manchester United have one final game at Old Trafford before the 2024/25 Premier League campaign comes to a close, in a season that’s been unforgettable, albeit not for the right reasons.

Sitting in 16th after a 1-0 loss to Chelsea, the highest in the table United can now come is 14th, with Everton now beyond their reach six points ahead in 13th place.

Unfortunately, if Ruben Amorim’s men lose to Aston Villa this weekend and Tottenham beat or draw Brighton, United would finish in 17th place on the fringe of the relegation zone.

Whilst little rides on the Old Trafford fixture against the Villains, the stadium’s groundskeepers are still keen to maintain the pitch for the final game.

As such, a bizarre treatment has been applied to the pitch to promote its growth.

The Daily Mail has reported that hundreds of blobs of garlic have been applied to the pitch at Old Trafford to help the turf’s regrowth ahead of the match against Villa.

Fans visiting Old Trafford on stadium tours caught sight of the odd application of the foo, but there is method in the madness.

Garlic can actually act as a pesticide due to its high sulphur content, driving away insects and other pests that can cause damage to the pitch.

Unfortunately insects seem to be the least of United’s worries, with mouse dropping once more being found around the stadium.

The droppings were found in seven different areas of Old Trafford, including premium lounges such as the Ambassador Lounge, the Manchester Suite and even under buffet bars.

Seemingly United’s problems are going beyond their on pith displays, with the planned new stadium hoping to avoid Old Trafford’s current rodent problem.
