Brian Windhorst Names Frontrunner To Trade For Giannis Antetokounmpo

After another early playoff exit, and looking at a future that involves paying Damian Lillard and his recently torn Achilles nearly $60 million over each of the next two years, a lot of the stars are aligning for the Milwaukee Bucks to trade superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason.

Recent reports suggest Antetokounmpo and the Bucks are set to meet to discuss the future in the coming weeks, and ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently named a potential frontrunner for his services.

During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show on Monday, Windhorst said that a certain up-and-coming team in the Western Conference stands out as a potential suitor.

“The team that stands out with a bright, fresh, flashing light is San Antonio.”

The San Antonio Spurs have plenty to offer in a potential Antetokounmpo deal, including reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, as well as the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft, which many assume will be used to select Rutgers star Dylan Harper.

San Antonio made big improvements this past season prior to Victor Wembanyama going down with deep vein thrombosis, but the organization has been clear that it doesn’t intend to wait patiently to build a contender around Wemby.

Wemby and Antetokounmpo together could be too tantalizing for the Spurs to pass up, and it would certainly shift the balance of power around the league.

Other potential suitors who have been thrown out there in recent weeks include the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, who are also young up-and-comers out west with plenty of draft picks and young talent to throw into any potential offer.

If the two-time MVP does hit the market, it should be a feeding frenzy unlike anything we have seen in years.
