A look back at Wolves transfer business from last summer and how the new arrivals got on
After flirting with relegation for large portions of the league season under Gary O’Neil, Wolves have actually managed to end the Premier League campaign on a high under the guidance of Vitor Pereira after a much improved second half of the season performance.
Wolves head into the final two games of the season in 14th position and are already guaranteed to be playing top-flight football again next season. They’ve been one of the top performing teams in terms of form since Pereira’s arrival and will have high hopes of finishing further up the table next term.
The Molineux outfit made a huge splash on the transfer front when they first won promotion into the top-flight in 2017 but have stagnated slightly on the transfer front in recent years, with a large emphasis on player sales as opposed to attracting star-studded names.
However, the Old Gold did still manage to bring in several first team recruits in the summer as well as a further three in the January transfer window. Here we assess which stars have hit the ground running and which have struggled to make the grade so far:
All Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 2024/25 signings rated
Tommy Doyle - 3/10: Former Sheffield United midfielder Tommy Doyle arrived on a permanent for around £4.3m after a fairly underwhelming loan spell last term. He’s played 24 times in the league, registering one assist while starting just three matches. He’s played just two minutes of football since March and has struggled to make a big impact when on the pitch, with a move to the Championship looking like the next logical step.
Rodrigo Gomes - 4/10: Portuguese youngster Rodrigo Gomes cost the club around £12m and is yet to hit the ground running with just two goals from 23 league appearances and just six starts. The 21-year-old does have two goals against Leicester on his record, but will need to show more next season.
Pedro Lima - 4/10: Brazil Under-17 international Pedro Lima was signed with a view for the future so it’s hard to judge his progress after just three league appearances, one start and a combined 70 minutes of first team action.
Sam Johnstone - 3/10: Former Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone arrived for £10m and was expected to replace Jose Sa between the posts. However, he’s played just 7 league matches, conceding 17, losing six and picking up just one draw. He’s not played since December and is expected to be on the move again in the summer.
André - 7/10: Wolves beat Liverpool to the signature of Brazil international Andre and after an initial bedding in period are now seeing the best of the tough-tacking 23-year-old.
Wolves’ January signings rated
Emmanuel Agbadou - 8/10: Arguably one of the signings of the January window. Ivory Coast international Agbadou has been a revelation since his £16.5m arrival and has brought stability to a defence that were leaking goals in the first half of the season.
Nasser Djiga - 4/10: Another January addition which arrived with the aim of solidifying the defence. Nasser Djiga was signed from Red Star in January, but has only played a combined 20 minutes in four substitute appearances. He’ll hope the best is still to come.
Marshall Munetsi - 6/10: Zimbabwe international Marshall Munetsi has established himself as a first team regular since January and has contributed one goal and one assist in 12 games since joining from Stade Reims.
