Manchester United’s summer transfer window is beginning to shake up, with Ruben Amorim set to be heavily backed.
It is no surprise that the priority for Manchester United in the market is bolstering the attacking options available to Ruben Amorim.
The lack of goals throughout the 2024/25 season cost United plenty of points in the league, particularly recently, which made offensive additions the clear priority for Ineos.
To strengthen, United are close to signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, with a deal thought to be all but official with completion imminent. Adding Cunha would be an excellent move, as the Brazilian boasts 17 goals and six assists in 35 games this season, a big upgrade on any current forwards.
But this is only the beginning with a new starting number nine on the agenda next for Jason Wilcox, and there appear to be two main options.
First, United are favourites to sign Liam Delap, but there is another heavily linked option, one Amorim would love.

Manchester United to accelerate talks to sign Viktor Gyokeres
While £30m Delap has looked like the number one striker option during the past few weeks, it would seem Champions League qualification could change everything, with Viktor Gyokeres still an option for United.
Amorim’s first choice is Gyokeres, while the club prefers Delap; however, it has now been reported by L’Equipe that United have begun to accelerate over a deal to sign Gyokeres.

It is claimed that after signing Cunha, Ineos will then turn full attention to Gyokeres, with United said to be the only club to make a concrete move to sign Gyokeres this summer, with PSG pulling out of the race.
This hands United all the advantage, and by winning the Europa League, the chances of this deal coming off would vastly increase, with Amorim keen to be reunited with the elite Swedish number nine.
Gyokeres would cost roughly £55m, which would be nothing if he translated his scoring to the Premier League. Additionally, would command a wage of £192,000-a-week, which would rank as United’s seventh highest wage right now, but would probably be higher once Marcus Rashford and Antony, for example, depart.
Viktor Gyokeres could completely change Ruben Amorim’s fortunes at Manchester United
It was just last month that Amorim was asked about United’s interest in Gyokeres, to which he admitted he didn’t want to sign players who only cared about playing in the Champions League.
But now, we would find it hard to refuse to sign a player with 53 goals and 13 assists in 51 games this season for any reason, considering the gigantic upgrade he would be on Rasmus Hojlund and his measly 10 goal tally through 2024/25.
While Ineos prefers Delap, no doubt for his age and price, the club should make an exception for Gyokeres, given his ridiculous goal record would be an instant fix for the problem Amorim has found.
Gyokeres is in his prime years, and Ineos should rethink their stance around his age, which at 26 is not exactly old; instead, he is ready right now.
Delap, meanwhile, would be a project, and in an ideal world, United would sign both and sell Hojlund. It might not happen, but if he is willing to join, United must do everything to sign Gyokeres to start as the leading striker next season; it would be a game-changer.
