Last month, claims from Spain stated Newcastle United are set to sign Málaga CF’s Antonio Cordero, usually referred to as Antoñito.
The 18-year-old’s contract expires in June and he’s refused to sign an extension with the Segunda División side.
Newcastle United are confident of securing his services on a free transfer in the summer window.
That’s according to Marca, who state the Magpies are already taking the winger’s arrival for granted.
The newspaper reports the Spain U19 international will officially join Eddie Howe’s side ‘next week’. They add the operation should be concluded in a week’s time at the most and ‘no more’ than that.
Cordero will sign a five-year contract with the Premier League club and Marca believe this shows the club’s confidence in him.
Newcastle United are ‘so confident’ the youngster will join them and of his potential that they want to make him a ‘Champions League player’. For this, the Tyneside club have to finish in the top five.
They are currently fourth, level on points with fifth and sixth placed Chelsea and Aston Villa, and a point ahead of seventh placed Nottingham Forest.
Marca add Cordero will have an important role at Newcastle, but he first has to adapt to a new team and country.
101 TV partly back up Marca’s report and adds that Newcastle United could send him out on loan in the upcoming window. They add a return to Spain isn’t ruled out for next season.
