“We both deserve to win” – Tottenham star credits Manchester United for European run

Tottenham take on Manchester United in the Europa League final today and it’s a huge day in the club’s history.

Spurs don’t just get a chance to win their first piece of silverware in 17 years, but it can also be their first European trophy since 1972.

Tottenham star Destiny Udogie has never tasted silverware in his young career and the Italy international has spoken to [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Europa-League/21-05-2025/europa-league-verso-manchester-united-tottenham-intervista-a-destiny-udogie.shtml) about Wednesday’s massive clash.

He credited Manchester United for getting so far in the Europa League and stated that both teams ‘deserve’ to win the competition, having endured a difficult campaign in the Premier League.

He said: _“__I think it’s still a good thing. We’ve both had a great run in Europe. We both deserve to win.”_

Udogie believes that if Tottenham win the Europa League, it will change everything for them this season and in the 2025/26 season also.

_“Winning this cup can change everything, qualifying for the Champions League is something very important. It means playing in Europe next year too, which is a great thing.”_

When asked when Spurs started believing in the prospect of winning the competition, the left-back said: _“We always believed we could win, but getting through against Frankfurt in the quarter-finals pushed us even more, it made us say that we could really win this competition.”_

He also spoke about the season from a personal perspective and how he’s finding form and fitness at the right point of the season.

_“It’s difficult, because of all the injuries I’ve had and the constant attempt to get back to top form. But I’m trying to finish the season in the best way possible, to help the team.”_

Speaking further about it, the Italian said: _“I’m fine now. At the start of the season I was coming from an operation and without a good pre-season it was difficult. But now thanks to the team and the staff I’m finding the best condition.”_

Udogie has been troubled by a hamstring injury this season but despite that, he was involved in Tottenham’s convincing win over Manchester United earlier in the Premier League season.

That will give Ange Postecoglou’s side some confidence going into the game later. Spurs have also rotated their squad quite heavily in the past three weeks and this will help them have a fresh team for the final.

It will be an enticing clash and if things go right for them, Tottenham can make history.
