'Wants my job'... Ruben Amorim tips one Manchester United player to become a 'very good' manager

Ruben Amorim has been in front of the media ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League final clash with Tottenham.

The nerves are setting in ahead of the 2025 Europa League final over in Bilbao, Spain, with so much resting on Manchester United becoming champions.

However, as nerve-wracking as it all is, United players look completely composed, giving off the attitude that they belong at this stage. This reinforces Paul Scholes’ belief that United will win based on clutch and experience.

Open training saw laughing and joking among the 26-man squad United have taken to Bilbao for the final, with returning Diogo Dalot, Joshua Zirkzee, and Leny Yoro set to be key.

The confidence within the United squad is encouraging, and Ruben Amorim’s press conference displayed the group’s harmonious nature.

While Ange Postecoglou was described as irritable and hostile by Rob Dawson, while Amorim was making jokes, and one moment of the press conference in particular has had fans laughing.

Tuesday evening saw Amorim sit alongside two of the biggest leaders in the dressing room, Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire, as the three previewed the Europa League final.

In this press conference, one question pitched to Amorim was relating to why he thought he was under no pressure if he lost the final, like Ange Postecoglou is.

To this, Fernandes chimed in, jokingly suggesting there is pressure on the 40-year-old ahead of the final.

“He is? Who told you he isn’t… because he is.”

After this, Amorim laughed before responding, with some praise for his captain.

“He wants my job, he will be a very, very good coach. But he has to work on his mindset, he doesn’t know how to deal with people.”

Both were clearly joking around with Maguire also laughing on the stage, showcasing the high spirits in the United camp ahead of the cup final on Wednesday, which is a must-win.

This moment between Amorim and Fernandes showcased their relationship and why they get along so well, with the same sense of humour.

Fernandes is Amorim’s man on the pitch, with United’s skipper regularly directing the game from back to front while playing a major role himself to tally up 19 goals and 19 assists during the 2024/25 season.

The 30-year-old is so much more than just his goals and assists, with his performances on the pitch invaluable over the past few years, as without him, the Red Devils would be battling the relegated teams for survival.

Fernandes understands the game perfectly, has leadership and also motivational skills, all of this lends itself well to becoming a coach and we are inclined to believe Amorim. Perhaps one day Fernandes will manage United.
