Brighton & Hove Albion are eyeing a move for VfL Wolfsburg’s Patrick Wimmer in the summer window.
That’s according to LAOLA1, who report that the 23-year-old’s transfer to Brighton is on the cards.
He mainly operated as an attacking midfielder and at times deployed in three positions up front this season. Wimmer managed four goals and four assists from 33 games in all competitions.
The Austria international’s contract is until 2027, but the report states he could leave in the upcoming window. The outlet has named Fabian Hürzeler’s side as the only interested party.
It’s claimed the Seagulls have been following the versatile player since March. An earlier claim from Salzburger Nachrichten reported Brighton noticed him in action against Serbia during the last international break, when he operated as a right-back.
Wimmer is represented by More Than Sport agency, and LAOLA1 got in touch with his direct agent, Frank Schreier, to ask about the Brighton links.
The agent hasn’t categorically mentioned Brighton but did confirm talks are ongoing with an English club.
“We are currently talking directly with top flight clubs from England, Germany, and France. But nothing concrete has been agreed upon yet,” he said.
Earlier claims have mentioned Bayern Munich and Leicester City as his potential suitors. Back in February, Wimmer said it would be a dream to join the Bavarian club but insisted he’s “open to anything.”
