'I'm really sorry'... Ruben Amorim makes honest Europa League admission to Man United fans before final

Ruben Amorim has been refreshingly honest with the Manchester United fanbase ever since he arrived as head coach.

There is no denying that it has been an extremely disappointing season for Manchester United but Ruben Amorim would be the first to admit that.

Amorim has spoken about United’s league form and why it is nowhere near good enough, but he has the chance to end the 2024/25 season with a trophy in his hands if he wins the Europa League final on Wednesday evening.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is backing Amorim whether he wins or loses the final, but the Portuguese head coach knows there will have to be improvement next season.

Ruben Amorim admits Europa League trophy is not enough for Man United

Since arriving in Manchester, Amorim has set his sights on winning the Premier League.

United’s last league triumph came in 2013, and the last Champions League trophy was lifted in 2008. Amorim is eager to change that, and he knows the Europa League final is only a stepping stone for his side.

Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo, Amorim said: “When I say that it’s [Europa League] not the most important thing in our club, I really mean it.

"If you win Europa League at Manchester United, i'm sorry but it's not a big thing. You need to go for Premier League and #UCL." 👀

“If you win the Europa League with Manchester United, I’m really sorry but it’s not a big thing.

“You need to go for the Premier League and Champions League, and we are so far away. That is my feeling that winning a European final is not enough and I have that feeling all the time.”

Ruben Amorim has perfect mentality to be Man United manager

Earlier this season, Amorim’s mentality was questioned by Paul Scholes due to United’s poor form in the Premier League.

But Amorim has always been the first person to admit that neither he nor his players have been good enough. He strives for perfection, and that is what United fans want in a manager.

Amorim has been surprised by United’s fanbase and their undying support for him since arriving as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

Ultimately, fans have grown aware in recent years that the problems at United run much deeper than the individual sat in the managerial hot seat. Amorim has been nothing but honest and there have been signs of progress in terms of style of play and team identity.

Winning the Europa League would end a terrible season on a high and provide some optimism heading into 2025/26.
