Rafa Benitez has been out of work since March 2024, when he was sacked by Celta de Vigo.
The former Everton boss has been keen to land a Premier League job, with Leeds United mooted as a possible destination.
Rangers have also been linked to Benitez, though, it looks as though they could bring back Steven Gerrard now.
The Spaniard’s reputation in England took a battering after his disastrous spell on Merseyside, which saw him sacked after less than seven months in the job.
Now, it’s being reported that Benitez is about to take a shock new job.

Former Everton manager Rafa Benitez about to land shock new job
Rafa Benitez’s stock has dropped dramatically since leaving Everton, with his Celta Vigo endeavour not really going to plan.
Now, according to Marca, Benitez is in advanced negotiations to become the new AEK Athens manager ahead of the new season.
Manager Matias Almeyda has already left his post, and the former Toffees boss has now accepted the vacancy.

After meeting with Athens’ sporting director, Javier Ribalta, Benitez was sold on the project and is expected to be officially announced in the coming weeks, all being well.
Benitez will join up with former Manchester United star Anthony Martial
Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is the star player over at Athens and has enjoyed a productive debut season.
The Frenchman netted nine goals whilst laying on two assists, helping the Greek giants to a second-place finish.
Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Eric Lamela is also a key performer, as is Croatian legend Domagoj Vida.
So, Benitez will have a pretty decent squad at his disposal and will likely be overseeing his side in the UEFA Conference League.
