Christian Eriksen sends clear message to Spurs ahead of ‘special’ Europa League final, ‘As far as I’m concerned…’

Manchester United’s clash against Spurs in the Europa League final is important for everyone but it is extra special for Christian Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen arguably played the best football of his career at Spurs, thriving in Mauricio Pochettino’s thrilling side that wowed Europe.

He’s a shadow of that player now but still extremely good at his strengths, just that his weaknesses are a lot more visible with age.

With Eriksen set for Man Utd exit in the summer, it would be bittersweet for him if he leaves with a trophy but at the expense of a club close to his heart.

By his own admission, he’s sent Spurs a clear message that he supports them in everything, but…

Christian Eriksen’s Europa League message to Spurs

Eriksen has been a bit-part player this season and his role has reduced further after Ruben Amorim came in and implemented a physical style of play.

Still, his set-piece delivery and passing nous to break down deep defences has been used by the Man Utd manager off the bench in the odd game.

He will hope that he gets another chance to make an impact against his old team which he is excited to do, despite having some bittersweet feelings.

In an interview with Disney+, Eriksen said that while he does support Tottenham “in everything”, they will have to wait a year to lift a trophy.

He said: “Yes, it’s a special game for me. I support Tottenham in everything, but not in this final. As far as I’m concerned, Tottenham can win a trophy next year.”

Christian Eriksen will be a Man Utd favourite

Despite his spell at Old Trafford ending with a whimper, Eriksen will go down as a Man Utd favourite who was at the heart of the club’s most hopeful season since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

His partnership with Casemiro during Erik ten Hag’s first season at the club provided hope that the club had reliably turned a corner, no false dawns.

Of course, it didn’t turn out like that as a combination of injury worries and instability at the club led to him becoming a fringe player.

However, his professionalism and specialised skill set always earned him a place in the plans of managers at the club, which is a credit to him.

It would be a fairytale end if he were to lift another trophy with the club, his third in three years. Quite a good return for a player who joined on a free transfer!
