Liverpool will look to move for Anthony Gordon again this summer - but Newcastle United are reluctant sellers.
Will Anthony Gordon leave Newcastle United for Liverpool this summer? It’s fair to say the story has created polarising views on both sides of the country.
While some Magpies fans aren’t fussed about losing the England international, plenty more see the value in keeping the player. When Liverpool fans caught sight of the news, many were unsure about the links, which originally surfaced last summer, especially given the recent form of left-sided option Luis Diaz.
Yesterday, NewcastleWorld published our exclusive take on the Gordon situation, which can be read in full here. And it’s proven a big talker on social media.
We reported that Liverpool look set to revisit a deal for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon - after a transfer failed to materialise last summer. However, the Reds are likely to be meet very reluctant sellers with any approach, with the Magpies’ PSR issues a thing of the past.
Newcastle were in dire straights last summer when they were eventually forced to sell both Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Hove Albion, and homegrown talent Elliot Anderson to now Champions League rivals Nottingham Forest. As part of that mad dash before the June 30 PSR completability deadline, Gordon was floated as a potential exit, with talks between Liverpool and the Magpies taking place while he was away with England at the Euros.
Nothing, of course, came to pass from those talks, as United satisfied their needs in avoiding a Premier League points deduction by departing with Minteh and Anderson, but the dangling carrot of a return to boyhood heroes Liverpool was shown to be there. And NewcastleWorld understands Arne Slot remains a big fan of the player and sees Gordon as the perfect fit in his summer post-title win rebuild, which is likely to see the exit of Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.
Anthony Gordon Newcastle United contract
Gordon only signed a new Magpies deal in October 2024, a reward for his elevated status in the Magpies’ line up, as well as breaking on to the international scene. So from that perspective, Newcastle have no need to consider selling a player seen by Eddie Howe as integral to the way that he wants his team to play.

@Tristan_T_I: “Gordon Cody Wirtz Salah Cherki? Hughes cooking better than Carti on Radar.”
@Khan971I: “If Diaz leaves then yes. If not then no. Good player but he’s not starting ahead of Gakpo or Diaz left wing. Don’t need 3 left wingers if we get a striker like we think we will with Nunez probably off.”
@danielruss77118: “I’d rather keep Diaz but if he goes he's the obvious replacement.”
@RichardAgy85960: “Expensive.”
@tc10131993: “Nooooooooo. Don’t sell Lucho for this guy.”
