Riyad Mahrez reacts after Pep Guardiola spots 'disaster' in his Kevin De Bruyne farewell message

Kevin De Bruyne has received a number of messages after playing his final game in front of the Manchester City faithful.

The Belgian helped Manchester City defeat Bournemouth 3-1 on Tuesday evening at the Etihad Stadium to put UEFA Champions League qualification in their own hands heading into the last day, before giving a speech as he prepares to depart.

A number of Manchester City icons, such as Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Joe Hart all appeared on the screen to bid farewell to Kevin De Bruyne – as well as Riyad Mahrez, who Pep Guardiola then aimed a jibe at.

How Riyad Mahrez responded after Pep Guardiola called his outfit a “disaster”

The Algeria international opted to wear an LA Lakers vest when delivering his message to the Belgium international.

Guardiola did not approve, jokingly calling the outfit a “disaster” when speaking about the tributes De Bruyne had received.

The Spaniard said: “It was so nice to see Vinny and Leroy (Sane) and Raheem (Sterling) and the disaster outfit from Riyad, and all the players, Pablo (Zabaleta) Joe Hart, everyone was there. It was so, so nice.”

Mahrez – who Jack Grealish admires – saw the funny side at least, responding with a string of laughing emojis on X (previously known as Twitter) before adding “this guy” in the direction of Guardiola.

How Riyad Mahrez is faring at Al-Ahli

The 34-year-old is performing incredibly well over in Saudi Arabia.

Mahrez, who almost joined Arsenal, helped fire Al-Ahli to the AFC Champions League Elite this season, scoring 17 goals and providing 19 assists in 44 appearances, which is a simply incredible return.

The Al-Ahli No.7 also scored 12 and assisted 14 in 33 games last term, so he has evidently settled well in Saudi Arabia.

Even at the age of 34, the Algerian is still tormenting defenders, just like he did across his five years at Manchester City.
