Speaking on the Run It Back on FanDuel TV, Cousins gave a strong take on the Warriors' situation with Kuminga, the 22-year-old forward.
“I think they lost (Kuminga). I think Steve Kerr ruined that relationship with the DNPs,” Cousins said. “We’ve seen this happen time and time again when it comes to him and dealing with young talent. He just doesn’t handle young talent well. He doesn’t develop young talent.”
Cousins didn’t stop there, adding that Jordan Poole was the only young player to grow under Kerr’s system, and even he was eventually traded.
“I mean, out of the years he’s been there, we’ve seen one guy develop under Steve Kerr, and they ran him off as well, and that was Jordan Poole,” Cousins continued. “So when it comes to young talent, I just don’t think they handle it well. And I can see Kaminga being on the move.”
Kuminga, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game this season while shooting 45.4% from the field.
