Keith Hackett has reacted after a cameraman entered the field of play after Omar Marmoush’s goal for Manchester City against Bournemouth.

The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that the Premier League had to immediately clamp down on camera operators and other broadcasting staff from similar actions.

An emotional match at the Etihad Stadium ended with a deserved 3-1 victory to the hosts, as Marmoush, Bernardo Silva and Nico Gonzalez’s goals sealed the points before Daniel Jebbison’s late consolation.

Kevin De Bruyne’s last match in Man City colours at the Etihad ended early when he was withdrawn after Mateo Kovacic’s red card, but the Belgian was still given a fitting and heartfelt sendoff in Manchester.

Omar Marmoush avoids cameraman collision after Man City goal

Marmoush took just 14 minutes to blow Tuesday’s match off its hinges, and fired home a wonder strike from over 30 yards after Bournemouth granted the Egyptian far too much space to shoot in their half.

After his shot had sailed into the top-left corner of Kepa Arrizabalaga’s net, Marmoush ran to celebrate and slid on his knees to the corner flag as City’s home fans celebrated a goal-of-the-season contender.

Before any of his team-mates could reach him, however, Marmoush was met by a cameraman, who ran onto the pitch with his equipment to get a close-up shot of City’s number seven after his wonder goal.

Hackett was incensed after a review of the footage, and called on the Premier League to make clear to their broadcasting partners that enroachment in such circumstances could endanger players’ safety.

The Guardian reported on 9 May that from next season, cameramen will be allowed onto Premier League pitches in order to film player celebrations, but Hackett urged decision-makers to avoid such a change.

‘Man City cameraman’s actions were unacceptable’ – Keith Hackett

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former FIFA referee and ex-PGMOL chief said an immediate clampdown has to be brought into place by the Premier League in order to prevent other close calls from escalating.

The actions of this cameraman are unacceptable and must be stopped immediately”, Hackett told Football Insider.

“This must be taken up by the Premier League to ensure the safety of the players in future games.”

Marmoush’s goal was certainly one worth a second view from close range after he almost took the net off in front of the Etihad Stadium’s away end, but the cameraman’s conduct did risk a potential collision.

City will certainly be glad that no collision occured as Marmoush slid towards the corner flag, but in winter with wetter conditions, they’ll take caution in allowing cameraman to encroach in the way one did on Tuesday.
