Former Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard is reportedly set to return to the Rangers.

It has been reported by talkSPORT that the Liverpool legend will have Steven Davis as his assistant and Jordan Henderson would also join in a combined player/coach role.

Gerrard was most recently at Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, but he was relieved of his duties at the end of January.

He began coaching in the Liverpool academy before being granted the chance to lead the Gers, a chance he took back in 2018. In 2021, he led Rangers to a rare Scottish league title at the expense of serial champions Celtic.

That achievement alerted clubs south of the border and, after being linked with a number of sides, Gerrard was lured back to England by Villa in the autumn of 2021, where he reunited with CEO Christian Purslow.

There was immediate positive form, and the arrival of Philippe Coutinho, but Gerrard couldn't sustain the strong results and was dismissed a year later.

Since then, he has tried his hand in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Ettifaq, where he worked with the likes of Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Dembele and Demarai Gray, but he was let go earlier this year and is now closing in on his next gig.
