Newcastle United snubbed as official announcement made ahead of Premier League final day

Newcastle United are set for a huge game against Everton on Sunday.

Indeed, it all comes down to this for Newcastle United. If they beat the Toffees at St James’ Park, Eddie Howe’s side will ensure they secure Champions League qualification.

It is a massive game for the club. Qualifying for the Champions League could be game-changing for Newcastle in the transfer market this summer, while also helping the club keep their players long-term.

Newcastle, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest are all going for three spots in the Premier League table on the final day.

Toon fans in the UK, however, will be unable to watch the events on Tyneside on Sky.

Sky Sports snub Newcastle United in official announcement

Sadly for Newcastle fans, Sky Sports have confirmed their TV selections for the final day of the Premier League season.

All twenty teams in the division are in action on Sunday, with every game kicking off at 4pm BST.

Rather than showing Newcastle’s Champions League play-off, however, Sky have taken a different route.

They have confirmed that their TV offerings will be Liverpool’s game against Crystal Palace, as well as Chelsea’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool wrapped up the Premier League title weeks ago, while Palace have nothing left to play for. Chelsea’s journey to the City Ground has major Champions League race implications, at least.

How much Newcastle United could earn by qualifying for the Champions League

Newcastle could earn £17million by reaching the Champions League first phase, which would prove a huge boost to the club.

It puts a huge amount of pressure on the Everton game, too. Fail to win that and it’s hard to imagine Howe’s side qualifying.

This is effectively a cup final, making Sky’s decision to opt for Liverpool’s game slightly strange.

Newcastle have proven they can handle the big occasion this season. There is one assignment left to complete.

Supporters not at the ground and based in the UK, however, won’t be able to watch on one of the country’s leading broadcasters.
