Former Coventry City loan star sets out next career step as he prepares for Man City exit

Former Coventry City loan star Callum Doyle is eyeing a permanent move as the next step in his career after completing his fourth season of temporary moves away from Manchester City.

The England U-21 international became a real fan favourite during his time with the Sky Blues in the 2022/23 campaign, helping the club to the Championship play-off final, going agonisingly close to promotion to the Premier League.

Prior to that he’d spent the first part of his development journey on loan at Sunderland and, following his impressive year at the CBS Arena, went on to help Leicester City gain promotion in 2023/24.

More latterly he’s spent the 2024/25 campaign at Norwich City where he earned rave reviews in central defence and left-back positions throughout the course of the season.

Doyle became a key cog in Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side before his dismissal as the club’s boss and, overall, has made 98 Championship appearances before his 22nd birthday.

In his final game for the Canaries – a 4-2 Carrow Road victory over Cardiff – Norwich fans were urging the club to ‘sign him up,’ but Thorup explained prior to his departure that Doyle was likely to be too expensive for Norwich to add him to their squad permanently this summer.

While Doyle didn’t rule out a return to Carrow Road, he is likely to command interest both at home and abroad this summer, and confirmed that he wants his next step to be a permanent move that will continue his development.

“I think (a permanent move) is the next aim for me,” Doyle told the Pink Un. “It’s my fourth loan now, and I’ve been all over the country.

“I’ve got nothing to say bad about this club. I love it. I’ve loved playing here and at Carrow Road. The fans are great, so you never know (about a return). It just depends on what happens in the summer, to be honest.”
