Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ittihad are reportedly in talks to sign Newcastle United midfield mainstay Bruno Guimaraes.
According to a report from TNT Sports Brasil, Al-Ittihad are looking for their next big star, and they seem to have their eyes set on Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes. The Saudi Arabian club are in talks with the Brazilian international as they explore a potential move for this summer.
Guimaraes made a name for himself while playing for Lyon. His consistent performances for the French club caught the attention of the Tyneside club, who ended up signing him at the start of 2022.
The Brazilian international has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Premier League outfit. He has established himself as one of their most important players under Eddie Howe. In the ongoing season, the 27-year-old defensive midfielder has been involved in a total of 46 matches and has even contributed towards 13 goals (5 goals, 8 assists).
Bruno Guimaraes’s consistent performances have attracted a lot of interest, but the Magpies have him protected with a contract that runs until the summer of 2028 and a massive release clause worth €120 million. They are also considering handing him a new deal to secure his long-term future.
While the clause could certainly be a major hurdle for European clubs, the same cannot be said about clubs in the Middle East. The Saudi Pro League clubs are home to some of the richest clubs in the world and they can easily trigger his release clause.
Al-Ittihad working to sign Guimaraes
Saudi giants Al-Ittihad seem to be very keen on signing the 27-year-old as they look to add more quality to their midfield. While they already have N’Golo Kante and Fabinho, the club want to add a younger option to the mix and have set their sights on Bruno Guimaraes.
They are hoping the Newcastle United midfield mainstay is the next big star to join them. The Saudi Pro League outfit have already started working towards a potential transfer. Al-Ittihad have been interested in him for a while now, and they are already in talks with the player’s camp as they look to learn more about a potential transfer.
While triggering his release won’t be a problem for them, they will have to convince the Brazilian international about leaving Europe just when he is about to enter his prime. It certainly won’t be easy but they can offer him massive wages to make the move.
