'Awful' ex-Man United star names who he wants to win Europa League final

Former Manchester United star Donny van de Beek has had his say on the upcoming Europa League final.

Donny van de Beek’s four years spent as a Manchester United player did not go how he planned.

Several injury setbacks pushed him down the pecking order and, under Erik ten Hag, Van de Beek’s confidence took a blow that he never recovered from.

After two underwhelming loans at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt, Van de Beek was sold to Girona last summer.

A year later, United are now preparing for the Europa League final and Van de Beek was asked about the showpiece in Bilbao.

Donny van de Beek supporting Man United in Europa League final

Van de Beek only made 62 appearances for United and it was often a mystery to the fans why the Dutch midfielder was so overlooked by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag.

Despite starting well at Old Trafford, Van de Beek was branded “awful” by Gary Neville in 2020 and his career took a nosedive the longer he stayed in Manchester.

While it would be hard to blame Van de Beek for not liking his time with United, he is still supporting the Red Devils from afar for the Europa League final.

Speaking to SportBible, Van de Beek said: “I’ll be watching on Wednesday night.

“I still love to see United play, and I stay in contact with a lot of people from the club—players and staff. I really hope they can win it; they deserve it. The fans have been through a lot recently.”

Man United midfield dilemma for Europa League final

Had United’s move for Van de Beek gone to plan, there is a good chance he would still be at Old Trafford and with the squad for the upcoming final in Bilbao.

However, United’s midfield looks very different this season and Ruben Amorim has some big selection decisions to make.

Casemiro has been tipped to thrive in the final given his immense experience in Europe as a five-time Champions League winner.

Summer signing Manuel Ugarte could line up next to him in a double pivot to provide extra protection for the defence.
