Robertson Says Goodbye to Alexander-Arnold: “Wingmen, One Last Time”

The decision by [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/) supporters to make their discontent over Trent Alexander-Arnold’s decision to leave his boyhood club on a free transfer to join European tormentors [Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com) audible was understandable if not entirely pleasant.

Having got that off their chest against Arsenal the weekend before last, though, there seems the chance at least for a more civil—and perhaps even a little bit celebratory—send-off for the departing star when they lift the Premier League trophy after the final game of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

That certainly seems to be what long-time teammate and fellow Liverpool fullback Andy Robertson is thinking, and we have a sneaking suspicion that with the trophy lift on offer and some time to work through their feelings, the Kop might just be in enough of a party mood on Sunday to grant that wish.

“My brother, where to even start!” Robertson wrote in a goodbye message to his departing teammate. “It has been an absolute privilege watching you grow from a boy to a man over these last eight years. You have won it all and created amazing memories along the way.

“I want to thank you for constantly pushing me to new limits and setting the bar so high I had no choice but to follow. You are going to be a huge miss around the training ground and an even bigger miss on the pitch. I hope the hard work you have put into this club, the moments you have given us, and the massive contribution you have made are recognised as they should be.

“Wingmen, one last time.”

Saying goodbye is never easy. It’s not hard to understand why the local matchgoing fans in particular might feel hurt by Alexander-Arnold’s departure. But having had the chance to make that clear and work through some of those feelings, maybe there’s room now for a slightly more positive final send-off.
