Tottenham fans have had to move heaven and earth to make it to Bilbao for the Europa League final against Manchester United on Wednesday.

Spurs take on their Premier League rivals at the San Mames on 21 May, as they look to lift their first major trophy in 17 years and seal Champions League qualification in the process.

Fans making the journey to Spain have been forced to spend thousands on travel, accommodation and tickets, which has been described as “Scandalous”, with little help from UEFA.

Tottenham and Manchester United scandal for UEFA

Somehow, both Spurs and the Red Devils only received 15,000 tickets for their fans for the final, with the rest on sale for neutral supporters or corporate seats.

Dan Plumley has shared that there aren’t many alternatives for the major finals, which he believes will always be imperfect for UEFA and the fans.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The football finance expert admits he has sympathy for the governing body, who have to plan these things well in advance without knowing who will reach the final.

“It’s really tricky this,” he exclusively told Tottenham News.

“In the process of event logistics, there’s absolutely good reason to nail down the date, first of all, and then the stadium.

“We know that is always going to be different year-to-year, because different venues will always host, so you’re always going to get that discrepancy in the stadium, and UEFA have got to move it around Europe, that’s part of the point.

“This is always going to come up, and I think you’re playing out the scenarios in your head of what teams may get there and because it’s two English clubs, the fanbase and demand are going to be higher.

“I can sympathise with UEFA on that point, there aren’t too many alternatives either, looking at it the other way.

“The ticket situation is something we are going to have to live with. They’ve got corporate partners and sponsors that fund the prize money for these competitions, and they’re going to be offered tickets for the final, so we have to swallow that a little bit.

“It’s just one of those things that will always be imperfect because of the way it is. I can’t see how UEFA can do it differently given the structure of the competition.”

Regardless of what fans and outsiders think about the Australian, he has faced ridicule throughout the entirety of the build-up to this final, and he can shut everyone up with one 90 minutes.

Tottenham have struggled this season

Despite a shocking domestic season, nobody would care about that or the prices of tickets to see the mighty Tottenham lift that silverware.

It’s time to get the job done.
