**Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has been the man to pick the Premier League's Team of the Week all season, and with just one game to go, he has been tasked with creating his ultimate Team of the Season.**
There have been times when Shearer has let his Toon bias shine through slightly throughout the season, but he has always been able to justify his inclusions.
Now the Big Man has picked his best XI from the 2024/25 season, and he's found space for two Newcastle stars, and we have to be honest, we were surprised it wasn't three.
Big Dan Burn misses out on a place in Shearer's XI despite an amazing season, which saw the veteran defender called up for England for the first time and score a goal at Wembley in the Carabao Cup Final. Burn hasn't let his standards slip all season, and we're shocked he's not been included. Maybe if Shearer were able to pick subs, he'd have made it, as he does get a mention as he selects Virgil Van Dijk.

Alan Shearer almost had Jacob Murphy in his Team of the Season
--------------------------------------------------------------
The two Toon stars who did make it are Sandro Tonali in the midfield and, of course, Alexander Isak up front, with [Shearer saying Tonali just edged out Matheus Cunha.](https://www.premierleague.com/news/4314077)
> **Sandro Tonali (Newcastle)**
> "He has proved why he is so important to Newcastle, and why he is adored by the supporters. Tonali has stood out in a midfield packed with talent, and moving into more of a holding role has really transformed the Magpies' season. His flexibility edges out Wolves' Matheus Cunha."
> **Alexander Isak (Newcastle)**
> "One of the best No 9s in Europe. He's had a fantastic season, but he's just unlucky that Salah has been so phenomenal, as 23 goals would be enough to win him the Golden Boot in some seasons. Chris Wood and Yoane Wissa have also impressed throughout the campaign, so they deserve a mention here too."
No special mention for Eddie Howe? Howay, Alan!
-----------------------------------------------
It wasn't just Dan Burn who got an honorary mention by Shearer, with Jacob Murphy almost making the cut, were it not for the insane season Mo Salah had for Liverpool.
Shearer also opted for Arne Slot as his manager of the season, which we can totally understand, but there was no honourable mention for Eddie Howe, who ended Newcastle's 70-year wait for a domestic trophy. Come on, Alan, you're better than that.
It just shows how good Newcastle have been this season that they get two players in the team and two more mentioned as just missing out. More of the same next season with a little bit extra? Why not!
