Now, as part of that long-term vision, as per Argentine outlet Velez Digital on X, United are eyeing 19-year-old forward Maher Carrizo of Velez Sarsfield.
Carrizo is attracting serious interest across Europe, with Manchester City, Arsenal, Wolves, and Southampton all said to be monitoring the exciting Argentine.
City boss Pep Guardiola is believed to be a huge admirer and has already sent representatives to meet with Carrizo’s camp.
City are looking to bolster their attacking options after a mixed season in front of goal.
Velez Sarsfield are reportedly open to a sale if Carrizo’s €16 million release clause is met.
Carrizo has turned heads with his performances in the Copa Libertadores.
He scored four goals and registered an assist in just five appearances.

His creativity and directness on the ball have also stood out – completing 7 key passes and 16 successful dribbles out of 32 attempted.
Capable of playing on either wing, Carrizo’s finishing, pace, dribbling, close control and athleticism is what makes him a standout prospect for top clubs.
United, keen to avoid past mistakes in the transfer market, may see the Argentine as the type of shrewd, high-upside signing that can help reshape the club’s future on and off the pitch – without a ridiculous fee.
With competition from Pep Guardiola at City, they’ll need to move quickly to win the race.
However, there’s a clear sense that United are now targeting long-term growth over short-term fixes.
