West Ham face a hefty financial penalty with the end of the Premier League season in sight.

Graham Potter’s reign as manager has gotten off to a very slow start after failing to show a huge improvement on what came before him from Julen Lopetegui.

The Hammers are in 15th place ahead of their final game of the season against already-relegated Ipswich Town on Sunday 25 May.

They can only move up as high as 14th if they beat Ipswich and Wolves fail to win at home against Brentford and boost their prize money for the season.

However, any cash windfall from the Premier League for the position they finish in is going to be reduced as a fine lies in wait.

West Ham face fine over Nottingham Forest charge

The FA have charged West Ham and Nottingham Forest for failing to control their players at the end of their meeting at the London Stadium on Sunday, 18 May.

Deep into stoppage time, multiple players were involved in a melee.

West Ham’s Edson Alvarez and Carlos Soler and Forest’s Murillo and Morato were all booked for their involvement.

Keith Hackett said at the time that the skirmish will have led to an FA charge.

He now thinks both clubs will be fined by the authorities.

“I posted that the mass confrontation would trigger a charge from the Football Association,” said Hackett to West Ham Zone.

“Both clubs will no doubt face a financial penalty in the thousands if found guilty.”

“A recent game involving Sheffield United and Plymouth also triggered the same investigation.”

West Ham set to follow Sheffield United’s lead

West Ham look as though they’re going to face a fine totally at least in the tens of thousands for their players’ role in the melee against Nottingham Forest, who’ll likely face similar punishment.

Sheffield United were recently fined £180,000 when they lost control of their players in a defeat to Plymouth last month.

In total this season, Chris Wilder’s side has been fined just shy of half a million pounds for constant disciplinary issues.
