Jude Bellingham is set to have surgery on a shoulder injury following Real Madrid's Club World Cup campaign, according to reports.

Several outlets, not least the BBC, say the former Birmingham City starlet has been grappling with the issue for a while and PA Sport say Spanish reports suggest he'll be out of action for the first six weeks of the upcoming season.

Bellingham is said to have sustained the injury after an awkward fall during a match on November 23 and has since been playing through the pain with his shoulder strapped.

The Spanish club will participate in this summer's restructured Club World Cup, taking place in the United States from June 15 to July 13.

Reports indicate that the 21 year old will undergo surgery once the tournament concludes, leading to a significant period on the sidelines.

This is likely to rule him out of the start of next season's LaLiga campaign as well as England's World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia in September.

England manager Thomas Tuchel is due to announce his squad for next month's matches on Friday and given the nature of the opposition – they face Andorra in a qualifier and Senegal in a friendly – Bellingham may not be selected anyway.

The midfielder has made 52 appearances for Real Madrid this season, netting 14 goals as they are set to finish second in LaLiga behind Barcelona when the season wraps up at the weekend.

The Football Association and Real Madrid were approached by the PA news agency for comment.
