Tottenham have confirmed their starting lineup against Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday.

San Mames hosts Ruben Amorim’s team and the North London outfit on 21 May, in what could define the season for both sides.

Ange Postecoglou’s future at Spurs is uncertain after an abysmal Premier League campaign, with his team 17th in the table.

The Australian manager will undoubtedly cherish winning the competition much more than his counterpart, as his future may rely on it.

Postecoglou drops Son Heung-min in Tottenham final v Man United

Spurs have confirmed their starting lineup against Man United on X (21 May), and Postecoglou has unsurprisingly made wholesale changes, with Pape Matar Sarr the only player to continue.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Son Heung-min has been dropped from the starting lineup, which will undoubtedly shock many fans.

The South Korea international has surprisingly been dropped, although he was underwhelming against Aston Villa in the Premier League on 16 May, with a combined xG and xA of 0.07, as per FotMob.

Competition Appearances Goals Assists

Europa League 9 3 1

Son’s Europa League record this season.

During the 32-year-old’s 74 minutes at Villa Park, he completed 88 per cent of his passes, but had zero shots on target, zero successful dribbles, zero accurate crosses and zero accurate long balls.

The forward also didn’t contribute much defensively, losing six of his duels, and Postecoglou has preferred Richarlison up front.

Postecoglou needs Europa League win more than Amorim

Postecoglou’s sack at Spurs will be inevitable if he doesn’t win the Europa League in Bilbao.

The former Celtic boss is heading into the game with two league losses on the bounce against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.

Man United’s form this season hasn’t been much better, with the Red Devils sitting 16th in the top-flight, but Amorim will surely be given more leeway even if he loses.

Daniel Levy has historically been trigger-happy at Totttenham, and it feels like the only reason Postecoglou is still in a job is because of the Europa League.

Spurs’ co-chairman has possibly been waiting to see what the Australian manager can do in Europe before firing him.

The North London outfit made an error a few years ago by sacking Jose Mourinho just before the Carabao Cup final, and maybe they’re wary of making the same mistake.

If the 59-year-old head coach does end up lifting the trophy at San Mames, Levy will have a difficult decision to make in N17 soon.
