**Newcastle United have a squad full of legends these days. The Magpies ended their 70-year wait for domestic silverware this season, and everyone who played a part in that success will be granted legend status as their names will go down in the history books.**
That's our opinion anyway, but what makes a player a 'legend' anyway? Do they have to have already hung up their boots? The word 'legend' does imply a historical element to things, so the likes of Alan Shearer and Rob Lee are legends, but is Bruno Guimaraes?
Bruno captained the side to their first trophy in 56 years, which seems like a pretty legendary feat to us.
Alexander Isak has been breaking records for fun this season. Surely, he's done enough to earn the legend tag.

What about Newcastle United fan, joker in the pack and most improved player of the season, Jacob Murphy? Well, if you ask him, and The Athletic did on their [Pod on the Tyne podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/chatting-champions-league-and-more-with-jacob-murphy/id1488521834?i=1000709154958), he doesn't believe so.
> “No but I’m okay with that.“I’m at peace with myself. I know everything that I offer. It’s not for me to decide if I’m a legend or not, it’s for other people to come up with that.

We've hammered Murphy at times for being well below the standards we need to be successful, but he has been a massive part of our season with his goal contributions.
Add to that the cheeky wave to Caleta Car, his face after scoring against Tottenham during our famous 6-1 win and all the countless other times he's made us laugh, he has to go down as a legend.
Both on and off the pitch, Murphy has done some pretty amazing stuff. It hasn't all been great, but a hero's story is nothing without a few bumps along the way and the 'all is lost' moment.
