Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol has had a great season despite his team’s relative struggles.

Although Manchester City will finish the season empty-handed, Gvardiol has done his best to keep the team in the Premier League’s top five.

Gvardiol has been a rock at the back for Man City this season, making 52 appearances in all competitions and shining at centre-back and at left-back.

In addition to this, the 23-year-old has produced at the other end, bagging six goals and two assists.

Alan Shearer has now shared who he feels has been the Premier League’s left-back this season, with Gvardiol and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez in the running.

Milos Kerkez edges out Josko Gvardiol in Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Season

Shearer has revealed his Premier League Team of the Season, with seven clubs represented.

However, not one City player has made the cut in Shearer’s team, with only Josko Gvardiol in the picture as Shearer gave him an honourable mention.

Shearer, speaking about Kerkez on the Premier League website, said: “The left-back has energised AFC Bournemouth and is as good going forward as he is defensively.

“Missing just one match, his creativity has been key to the club’s excellent season.

“He edges out Josko Gvardiol, who has been outstanding for Manchester City despite a difficult campaign.”

Could Manchester City sign Milos Kerkez this summer?

City are set for a busy summer on the transfer front, with Pep Guardiola looking to add four or five new faces to his squad.

Full-back is one of the areas Guardiola is looking to address, and it has been reported that Kerkez is indeed in the picture for Man City.

Liverpool are said to be the frontrunners for Kerkez, but City have made enquiries and are viewed as genuine rivals to the Reds for the Hungary international.

If they don’t manage to sign Kerkez, Man City may revisit their interest in Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, who is also a target for a full-back role in Guardiola’s team.

City are reported to be interested in keeping Gvardiol at centre-back next season – so there’s certainly scope for a new full-back or two.
