11 days and counting before the summer window opens: At the same time it will mark the end of [Danny Ings](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-1-1-tottenham-player-ratings/) and Michail Antonio’s contracts along with Evan Ferguson’s loan, leaving just 32 year old Niclas Fullkrug as the clubs sole striker. The club apparently seek two front line recruits this summer. On a tight budget.
A new name has been linked via [givemesport.com’s](https://www.givemesport.com/west-ham-united-transfer-news-considering-move-sign-breel-embolo-london-stadium/)”exclusive’ today as Monaco’s 28 year old striker **Breel Embolo.** Already playing for Switzerland at international level, Embolo scored against the country of his birth -Cameroon – during the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals. Apparently:
_“West Ham United are seeking assurances that Breel Embolo is interested in completing a move to the London Stadium and that current employers Monaco are prepared to sanction his departure for a bargain fee before making a final decision on whether to pursue him”_
Closer investigation reveals that UEFA.com writer Steffen Potter praised Embolo as a complete striker_: “He is powerful, technically strong and decisive. He has explosive pace and is a composed finisher.” Fabian Frei, who was a midfielder for FC Basel at the same time with Embolo, complimented him as well, for keeping his feet on the ground”_
I do remember a younger Embolo terrorising defences in the group stages at in 2022 – if he’s still got that physicality he’d be a handful.
Just what has been lacking since Michael Antonio lost a yard of pace about three years ago: Embolo at £55k a week would cost no more than Maxi Cornet but would hopefully have a more significant impact on West Ham’s goal difference next season. Another one to watch as the window gets into full swing.
