Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the NBA MVP award for the 2024-25 season, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
The Canadian guard beat out fellow finalists Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo to win the award.
SGA led the NBA in scoring with 32.7 points per game, along with 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks.
More importantly, he guided OKC to a league-best 68–14 record, earning the top seed in the playoffs.
This marks the seventh consecutive season that the NBA MVP award has gone to an international player. The last American to win the league's most prestigious individual honor was James Harden in the 2017–18 season.

Gilgeous-Alexander becomes the first Canadian to win MVP since Steve Nash, who earned back-to-back awards in 2004–05 and 2005–06. No other Canadian has ever received the honor.
Currently, SGA and OKC play in the Western Conference Finals and lead 1-0 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Thunder acquired Gilgeous-Alexander from the Los Angeles Clippers on July 10, 2019, in a blockbuster trade for Paul George. The deal also included Danilo Gallinari, five first-round draft picks, and two first-round pick swaps.
