A former Kentucky Wildcats standout has taken home NBA MVP honors for the first time!
On Wednesday, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won his first NBA MVP award. SGA beat out former MVP winners Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Denver Nuggets forward Nikola Jokić for the honor.
Gilgeous-Alexander was widely expected to win the award after leading the Thunder to 68 wins, which was tied for the fifth most in a regular season in NBA history, while earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NBA Playoffs. He won the NBA scoring title with a career-high 32.7 points (51.9% field-goal shooting) to go with 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks per contest.
The Thunder are coming off a win over Julius Randle and the Minnesota Timberwolves to take a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals series, putting SGA just three wins away from his first trip to the NBA Finals.
