Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the NBA MVP award for the 2024-25 season, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
Gilgeous-Alexander beat out fellow finalists Nikola Jokic from the Denver Nuggets and Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.
The seventh-year guard led the NBA in scoring this season, averaging a career-high 32.7 points per game while leading the Thunder to a league-best 68-14 record. Gilgeous-Alexander also shot 51.9% from the field and averaged 6.4 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game across his 76 regular-season appearances.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s No. 1 seed Thunder are still alive in the NBA Playoffs. OKC currently leads the Minnesota Timberwolves, 1-0, in the Western Conference Finals.
This award marks the 26-year-old’s first MVP win. He beat out two multi-time winners on the voting ballot. Jokic has won the MVP three times (2021, 2022, 2024). Antetokounmpo has won the award twice (2019, 2020).
The official announcement from the NBA about the award — complete with voting results — won’t be released until later today. The Inside the NBA crew is slated to make the official announcement on TNT prior to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers.
