Luke Shaw has been a loyal servant to Manchester United. The left-back joined the club from Southampton in 2014, becoming the most expensive teenager ever at the time, and has been there ever since. A competent full-back, comfortable making contributions in both attack and defence, Shaw has enjoyed a solid career.

In truth, questions surround Shaw, mainly for the player he perhaps would have been were it not for the injuries he has suffered, which stem from a match against PSV in the Champions League during Shaw’s early days at Old Trafford. Shaw has remained a good player, but he is not exactly a reliable player for fitness.
Shaw has appeared in just 27 matches across the last two years. While injuries are not the player’s fault, so few appearances hardly justify the £200,000 per week, according to Capology, that Shaw earns at Man United. As such, it might be time for Man United to part ways with their long-serving defender.

Luke Shaw
Shaw started for Man United in their Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, the biggest match of Ruben Amorim’s reign as manager thus far. The defender hardly covered himself in glory when Tottenham broke the deadlock in the game, allowing Brennan Johnson to bypass him and poke the ball home beyond Andre Onana, with Spurs going on and finally ending their trophy drought.
Shaw has played as a left-sided centre-back in recent games for Man United. To date, Amorim’s only signing for the club has been Patrick Dorgu, a left wing-back formerly of Lecce. Dorgu’s arrival suggests that Amorim is, at least in some capacity, planning for a future without Shaw, as does Man United looking at centre-backs to potentially sign.
Under INEOS’ guidance, Man United have preferred to sign younger players with potential to grow into. Shaw, who is turning 30 this year, does not fit that criteria which, along with his fitness and recent form, makes it hard to see a long-term future for Shaw at Old Trafford, especially when combined with his high wages and INEOS preference to save funds where possible.
