'He did say he’d win in his second season!' - Liverpool star congratulates Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham win UEFA Europa League Final
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah offered a cheeky celebration for Ange Postecoglou after Tottenham Hotspur's UEFA Europa League Final victory over Manchester United.
The Australian ended a near-two-decade wait for silverware in north London, as Brennan Johnson's first-half finish edged a low-quality game at BIlbao's San Mames Stadium.
Victory delivered on a promise Postecoglou issued early into his second season in charge of the Premier League club, promising to end their long-suffering trophy drought.
Now, after victory against Liverpool's bitter rivals United, Reds striker Salah took to social media to echo the now-iconic phrase and offer his congratulations for the manager.
"He did say he'd win in his second season," the Egypt international wrote on X. "Congratulations!"
Salah is celebrating a second Premier League triumph with Liverpool after Arne Slot guided the Merseyside club to title glory in his first year since succeeding Jurgen Klopp.
The veteran attacker also put pen to paper on a new deal that will take him through another two campaigns, to the end of the 2026-27 season at least at Anfield.
Liverpool will be joined by Postecoglou and Spurs in the UEFA Champions League this year, though Ruben Amorim's United will be absent from European competition.
Other names congratulating Tottenham on their success included record club goalscorer Harry Kane, fresh off a first trophy of his own with Bayern Munich.
The Bundesliga winner famously departed the club ahead of the 2023-24 season having won no major honours during his time, but was quick to toast their success too.
