With the game over, many of the 19,000 fans quickly exited the stadium, known as The Gardens by locals, and rushed outside to take their party to the streets. The nearby Empire State Building was lit up in Knicks' colours of blue and orange, and so was the outside of the stadium and the huge United States Postal Service building across the road. The smell of cannabis, legalised in New York in 2021, was strong in the air as crowds scrambled up light poles and on top of taxi stands amid cheers from thousands of people who watched on.
