Man Utd were beaten 1-0 in the Europa League final as their sorry season got even worse.

The brother of Alejandro Garnacho took to social media to point the finger at Ruben Amorim after the Argentine was left out of the Manchester United starting line up for the Europa League final. Amorim named one change to his starting line up for the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur as Leny Yoro returned in place of Victor Lindelof.

It meant Mason Mount and Amad Diallo joined Rasmus Hojlund in attack, with Garnacho limited to a bench role in Bilbao. The decision was tough to take for Garnacho, who has played in all but one of their 59 matches this season, more than any other player at the club.

The 20-year-old was required when he replaced Mason Mount in the 71st minute of the match and made a positive impact when he tested Guglielmo Vicario with a low effort from out wide. Garnacho provided his side with energy in the dying minutes but it was not to be enough as Spurs held on for a famous win.

Roberto Garnacho slams Ruben Amorim decision

Alejandro Garnacho had enjoyed a run of 16 straight starts for Manchester United under Ruben Amorim before he lost his place in the starting line up earlier this month. The Argentine has not started any of the last three matches across all competitions, in which they lost to West Ham, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

It is impossible to know whether the result would have been any different had Garnacho started against Spurs, though his brother, Roberto, certainly wasn't pleased with the decision. Taking to social media after the defeat, he criticised Amorim for the decision after his sibling had played such a key role in their run to the final. "Working as no one else, helping every round, coming from 2 goals last 2 finals, just to be on the pitch 19 mins nd get thrown under the bus, wowe hajjahhahaha (sic),” he wrote on Instagram.

Speaking after the game, Amorim gave his verdict on the defeat and defended his decision not to turn to the bench any earlier than he did. "We suffered a goal. In the second half we were in control of the game we had situations to score," he told TNTB Sports. "I think we started quite well for the first five or seven minutes but then lost a bit of control of the game. We then suffered a goal but then the rest of the game we had clear chances to score.

"We started the second half quite well so change just for people to see that I change something is not my way of doing things. When I felt we needed a different player I put on a different player."
