Man United are pushing ahead with their efforts to sign Antoine Semenyo and Bryan Mbeumo, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim is an admirer of both Bournemouth and Brentford stars.

However, United will not sign both Semenyo and Mbeumo this summer and a decision will be made to prioritise one deal after initial talks.

Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that United are preparing a move for Semenyo and scouts have been been impressed by his performances.

Meanwhile, Mbeumo is also on United’s list of targets, with his goalscoring prowess and consistency at Brentford viewed as valuable assets.

The pair have now emerged as top targets for Amorim’s side ahead of the window and they will hold preliminary talks with both clubs before making a decision.

Man United are also closing in on Matheus Cunha, with the Wolves star now widely expected to make the move, as they plan to transform Amorim’s attacking options.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa, explained that United want another attacking player to follow Cunha through the door.

“Semenyo and Mbeumo are both very much on Man United’s radar,” he told Football Insider.

“They want to improve their attacking options even if they get a deal done for Cunha.

“Either one of them would be an improvement on what they’ve got at the moment.

“It’s the type of player United are having to look at, because the real elite players aren’t going to want to join them in the state they’re in.

“That’s no disrespect to either Semenyo or Mbeumo, because they’re still top-class players.

“They’ll speak to both clubs, but eventually they have to make a decision.

*“Once they’ve determined what the asking prices are going to be, whether they’ll be available and things like that, they’ll push ahead with one of them.*“

Marcus Rashford update emerges amid Barcelona interest

Amid plenty of talk about incoming attackers at Old Trafford, they are also planning to move on at least one of their current options.

Brown told Football Insider on 19 May that Rashord is prepared to leave on loan again if a permanent deal cannot be reached, following his successful spell at Aston Villa.

The forward’s wages and transfer fee have made a deal difficult for “the majority of clubs”, and mean another loan move may be his only option.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 12 May that Rashford wants to join Barcelona, while Aston Villa are set to let him leave at the end of his loan spell.
