Liverpool were tentatively linked with a move for soon-to-be free agent Kevin De Bruyne
Kevin De Bruyne has reportedly made a decision on his future beyond Manchester City, and it won’t include Liverpool.
The Reds were claimed to be a potential destination for the Belgian midfielder this summer as his decade-long stint at the Etihad Stadium comes to an end. He is set to become a free agent when his contract expires, and rumours briefly linked Liverpool with a potential move, although the ECHO understands the Reds are not currently looking at signing him.
That said, it didn’t stop Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah from publicly encouraging De Bruyne to make the switch to Anfield. In an interview with Sky Sports last week, the Egyptian paid tribute to the midfielder’s outstanding City career, while jokingly adding at the end: “We have space for him!”

Although De Bruyne didn’t rule out the possibility of talks with other English clubs following City’s FA Cup final defeat over the weekend, it now appears he has ruled out staying in the Premier League altogether. That’s according to The Telegraph, who report that De Bruyne has opted against remaining in England and will instead continue his career abroad.
Serie A giants Napoli and MLS side Chicago Fire are currently the two clubs most heavily linked. They now appear to be the frontrunners for his signature, should these latest developments prove accurate.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein echoed similar sentiments while speaking to NBC Soccer this evening, saying: “There’s no decision so far on what he’s going to do next. I would expect that [to come] maybe within the next four weeks.
“I think it’s unlikely he’ll play at the FIFA Club World Cup for Manchester City as he’s got a couple of World Cup qualifiers with Belgium to focus on. We’ll see where he ends up next as there are opportunities in the MLS and in Europe, with Napoli in particular. Turkey, too.
“The Premier League would hold possibilities but I think that’s unlikely on his behalf. There were suggestions of Liverpool, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I don’t think he’d want to play against Manchester City in the future.”
