Leeds United are keen on extending Sam Byram’s stay at Elland Road.

With the summer rapidly approaching, Leeds United have a lot of work to do to get themselves prepared for life back in the Premier League.

Recruitment at Elland Road is going to be crucial, but the decisions to be made over several first-team players are arguably just as important.

Junior Firpo is already said to be in talks with the Whites over extending his stay, with an update emerging on the future of Byram.

His experience of playing in the Championship proved to be vital under Daniel Farke, and according to Leeds Live (22 May), the Whites are keen on extending his contract.

As it stands, the 31-year-old will be leaving once his contract expires, but Leeds want to prevent that from being the case.

Byram himself wants to stay at Elland Road, and if a deal can be reached, it would be a contract extension that certainly suits both parties.

Daniel Farke needs a Premier League squad

If Leeds are to have any chance of staying in the Premier League, it will be crucial that Daniel Farke has a full squad of players capable of achieving that.

While retaining the likes of Byram and Firpo would be a boost, they will still be in need of several quality additions in the summer.

The next few months are going to be vital for the Whites, and they will be afforded no margin for error when it comes to the decisions they make.

If Farke is to succeed back in the top flight of English football, squad depth is going to be imperative, and it will be just as important that he utilises it.
